Hello and welcome to my family's genealogy page. For those of you visiting for the first time, you will have to slog through my gibberish to obtain the password. For those who have been here before, you know the password so zip to the bottom. As with all genealogical databases -- CAVEAT EMPTOR! Notes: - Wed, 21 Mar 2001: Joseph Willard HARMON & Chloe Verna née WHETSTONE family genealogy published on the World Wide Web. - Mon, 26 Mar 2001: web pages revamped adding a site search engine and LDS temple data. Security is still a major concern. - Sun, 1 Apr 2001: frustration, frustration, FRUSTRATION! Yadda, yadda, yadda. - Tues, 3 APR 2001::I am finally happy with the security situation. I am letting in ONE 'spider' and that is GENDEX -- a privately owned [noncommercial], searchable database of submitted genealogy websites. - Sat, 8 APR 2001::New site up and I am still not happy. [Soooooo, vat's neue?] - Sun, 13 May 2001:: Happy Mother's Day, Mom!!! New content and frame site up. - Please read on. My Security Concerns! (The following is absconded, and edited, from a very brilliant friend's genealogy site <http://www.lundeen.org/genealogy.html>) Initially I had deleted
the personal information on those who may be living, i.e., anyone born
after 1900, because of the nefarious work of the Web's search engines.
I have done two things to alleviate this situation. Several people were
concerned, and rightly so, that their information was unknown or incorrect.
This update corrects that and adds the LDS temple data--to the best of
my knowledge. If you note any inconsistencies or inaccuracies please fill
out the Family
Group Sheet with the CORRECTED data and send it to me. Or, just email
the corrections to me. 1) First of all, I will never show all of the personal data for any living person, and instead I direct any inquiries for that person to me. That way, I can evaluate the legitimacy of the inquiry instead of blithely making the material available. No one's address, phone number, fax, or email address will EVER be listed on this site!
When you click on the links on this page, you will be asked for a User Name & Password -- which I am giving you below. Please remember to use them when the request appears.
Lite and Easy or I-S-S-U-E-S (It certainly
does not get any lighter but it will be easier. Additionally, I am a 'control
freak', so as long as I have you occupied we are all satisfying my needs.
Royal Descent: EVERY genealogist gets excited when they find out that they have ROYAL lineage, for at least two reasons: 1) De facto, it makes the job easier. The royals always want to prove their purity of blood and, as is inherent to all societal systems, there are the taboos of consanguinity (which could be circumvented if you knew the right Pope in Rome). 2) One has more fuel for the furnace when leaning over the fence to give Mr./Ms Jones a good ol' one-two for their child getting a ranking in the 100 percentile while your progeny were lax and far behind [pun intended]. Well, mes amis, if there is one thing that I have learned during this endless lifetime of genealogical research [thank goodness, it has made life a tad more interesting] is that eventually we ALL tie in to the ROYALS. Which is good. How did that happen? Do zippers stay up? Do chastity belts work? When there is a will there is a way. But primarily, the ROYALS were not always royal [forget about regal]. And, no they did not descend from some godlet -- wanna Wodin/Odin anyone. Brute force accomplished the deed. Thousands dead, coronation tomorrow. There is tons of royal lineage here. A good percent I chose not to include. BUT, what I am most proud of is my ancestors who braved the unknown and crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Who pulled the handcart across the Great Plains. Who followed the unknown and took the train to an unheard-of depot and then carried their lifetime belongings , by whatever means possible, to a 'desolate' place. I admire the great-grandmother who helped her polygamous husband maintain a way station for the "Pony Express" and fed innumerable strangers a laden table. I laud the mother who provided for her in-laws and took them in so that ALL could survive the Depression. Enough, we WHETSTONE HARMONs do have a certain amount of descent from the "blue bloods" of Europe. However, more importantly we descend from the hardworking farmer and his spouse who could barely 'make ends meet'. Who slaved day-in-and-day-out to pay the 'rent', to put food in the mouths of themselves and their dependents, and to clothe themselves. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.
Surnames... & DNA Surnames came into use in England between 1250 and 1450...[through DNA testing] found that they can be traced to a single original bearer of the [sur]name as well. Read the complete article. Read an article pertaining to the Jewish Priesthood. This one talks about the Spanish descent in Ireland. Click here to read an article about the Plantagenet 'surname' from one of the many Internet forums to which I subscribe.
Those darned mixed up Calendars! All societies have had a means of reckoning the passage of time and the seasons either based up the cycle of the moon (lunar) or sun (solar). To be continued... (There are only so many hours in a day.) ;)
